David worked for over 30 years as an Intensive Care Specialist at Middlemore Hospital.

 During his career, he held a variety of leadership roles within the DHB and in broader society. He once was the Vice President, then President of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists and for 7 years the Principal Medical Advisor to the Director General and Ministers of Health.

 In 2016 he worked as a volunteer in Samoa establishing and supporting a new intensive care service to improve the outcomes for children with the acute reversible disease. He was named the Samoa Observer person of the year for 2016.

He has a long-standing interest in improving opportunities for people to succeed and as a result, has worked across different domains – he is a co-founder of the successful Environmental Sustainability Group at Counties Manukau which has achieved remarkable success over the past 8 years overseeing a 27% reduction in that organisation’s carbon footprint.
