Submission on Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Community Participation) Amendment Bill

14 Feb, 2023 | Submission

Our Roopuu Apaarangi Waipiro is releasing their full submission on the Sale and Supply of Alcohol (Community Participation) Amendment Bill. This bill aims to improve communities’ ability to influence alcohol regulation in their area by making targeted changes to the alcohol licensing process provided for in the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
In this submission, the roopuu strongly supports the removal of Local Alcohol Policy appeals and makes several recommendations to better protect communities most impacted by alcohol including such measures as: –          full restriction of alcohol product marketing in all formats  –          an increase in the purchase age to 20

          –          a reduction in legislated maximum trading hours (we recommend 9am to 9pm for off                             licences, 9am to 2am for on licences and 9am to 12am for club licences)

          –          increases to excise taxes to reverse the increasing affordability of alcohol products
