Karen (Ngāi Tahu) is a senior lecturer at Te Kupenga Hauora Māori, Waipapa Taumata Rau | University of Auckland. With a medical background as both a general practitioner and public health physician, Karen has 10 years experience working in various roles within the health system. Since 2019, Karen has been teaching and researching at Te Kupenga Hauora Māori and is passionate about the transformation of systems and services to uphold Indigenous rights and achieve equitable health outcomes for Māori. Alcohol-related harm research has included the conceptualisation and measurement of alcohol-related harm, and developing a Tiriti o Waitangi centred alcohol-harm minimisation programme.
